Visitors from across the globe, resplendent in traditional Regency dress, descended on central Bath, England today (14 September 2019).
Marking the opening of the 19th Jane Austen Festival, the Grand Regency Costumed Promenade wound its way through the streets of Bath culminating in a gathering in Parade Gardens.
Hundreds of Jane Austen fans helped transform the sun-drenched city centre public park into an 18th Century pleasure garden - complete with live music, traditional dancing and picnics aplenty.
The full range of ladies’ period dress was on display from regency dresses an spencer jackets to traditional bonnets and gloves – all accessorised by countless reticule handbags and parasols. Whilst fitted tailcoats, hats and canes plus military-influenced designs were on display from gentlemen joining the parade.
And the fun continued around the city as visitors found opportunities for selfies with those dressed in traditional costume. The 19th Jane Austen Festival runs for ten days and continues until 22 September and the Jane Austen Centre is open every day from 9.45am-5.30pm every day.
Guests staying at The Apartment, Bath - and any accommodation on Stay in Bath - have access to exclusive discounts across the city through the Bath Reward Card, including £1 off tickets, a free Souvenir Guide (worth £2.50) and 10% off all gift shop purchases at the Jane Austen Centre plus 10% off in the Regency Tea Room.
